The university confirmed that the Las Cruces campus will be anticipating, in total, an eight percent budget cut, equaling about $14.2 million. In the presentation from the Budget Coordinating Team, the university has already made $2.5 million in permanent central cuts that are made up of investments and transfers. The team will work to make further reductions in this area. This $2.5 is not counted in the total anticipated budget reduction. Floros said that the school will be preparing for two years of budget cuts, expecting the economic strain that the COVID-19 pandemic has caused to continue for the next two years.
