Vince Tyra wields an axe as if it were a scalpel. He will cut close to $25 million from the University of Louisville’s athletic budget without sacrificing a single sport. U of L’s athletic director projects an $18 million deficit for Fiscal Year 2021, but he has gotten far enough ahead of the COVID-19 crisis that a contingency plan for additional furloughs has been dropped and salary cuts imposed last April are now scheduled to be restored this summer.
