Faculty at a state university in Massachusetts are being furloughed for a week as a way to help address budget challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. On Sunday, more than 300 professors and librarians at Salem State University were temporarily laid off. The furlough, which coincides with Salem State's spring break, will last until Saturday, March 20. Spring break was chosen for the faculty furlough period in order to minimize its impact on students, according to school officials.
