AFTNJ president: Several of New Jersey’s colleges and universities are struggling - fDonna M. Chiera, NJ.com

The president of AFT New Jersey says that while several of the state’s stronger, larger public higher education institutions are doing well, there is evidence of instability at colleges and universities all around the Garden State. The recent Rutgers University strike — the first in its 257 years — generated a lot of public attention, but it isn’t alone in struggling with serious issues that could mean whether students will face diminished course offerings or even see schools shut their doors. At many New Jersey public universities and colleges, existential issues involving financial stability are boiling just below the surface.
