Bowles: UNC campus layoffs to start - The Associated Press

University of North Carolina President Erskine Bowles said Friday campuses are starting layoffs now in the face of budget cuts this year and next to give workers early notice and prevent even more job eliminations. In a letter to the State Employees Association of North Carolina, Bowles said school chancellors have initiated so-called “reductions in force” because they’ve already had to absorb $175 million in cuts this fiscal year.
