Syracuse fire station serving University Hill neighborhood could close - Ken Sturtz and Douglass Dowty, Post Standard
A fire station on Syracuse’s east side could close as city officials wrestle to eliminate a roughly $30 million deficit in the coming year’s budget. Fire Station No. 7, at 1039 E. Fayette St., is the closest station to the hospitals and universities on University Hill. The president of the city's fire union said closing Station No. 7 would jeopardize public safety. But it’s also one of the department’s smallest stations and in need of $1 million to $1.5 million in repairs, officials said. "We're looking at dire times in terms of what our budget is definitely going to look like," said William Ryan, chief of staff to Mayor Stephanie Miner.
