University of Nebraska Budget plan could force 4% tuition hikes - FRANCIS GARDLER, Journal Star
The University of Nebraska would need to increase tuition by about 4 percent each of the next two years -- or make further program cuts -- should the Legislature approve a much-reduced budget proposal, NU regents were told Friday. The university needs a 5.1 percent increase in state funding in order to meet its projected operating expenses for the next two years, said NU budget director Chris Kabourek. However, the Legislature’s Appropriations Committee has proposed a 2.5 percent increase in the university’s budget allocation, while Gov. Dave Heineman proposed a 4.2 percent increase at the start of the legislative session.
