State budget cuts may be more drastic - Andy Willard, The Daily Tar Heel
The University is facing the possibility of more drastic cuts in state funding next year following the release of Gov. Pat McCrory’s proposed budget last week. Every year, Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Bruce Carney asks the leaders of UNC’s academic departments how they would handle a change in the budget — and next year’s change, he said, is likely to be for the worse. “It’s going to be a pretty bad year, would be my guess,” Carney said. He said McCrory’s proposed budget — which would cut $55 million from the UNC system next year — does not bode well for the University’s budget.
