Public college access in jeopardy for low-income students as tuition rises: report - Wilborn P. Nobles III, NOLA
The burden of paying for higher education has shifted significantly from state governments to students and families since the Great Recession, and a new report states Louisiana for the most part has been affected by this more than any other region. State funding for higher education remains "far below" pre-recession levels in most states, and Louisiana's funding dropped by more than 40 percent since 2008, according to a report released Thursday (Oct. 4) by the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. Researchers found Louisiana cut more state funding from higher education than any other state, on a per-student basis of $4,949, over this period.
