Higher education leader warns of possible $35 million budget shortfall - Jake Jarvis, WV News

Officials with the Higher Education Policy Commission estimated Monday that the state’s public four- and two-year colleges could face a total budget shortfall of more than $35 million when the new fiscal year begins in July. It’s only a rough estimate, but interim commission Chancellor Carolyn Long said that’s how much the colleges could come up short when they hand out 5 percent raises that Gov. Jim Justice has promised, as well as help pay for public employees’ insurance plans. “We’re just concerned, and we wanted to make sure everybody understood that, as we look down the road, that it very well could be a cut to higher ed,” Long told the House Finance Committee Monday. https://www.wvnews.com/news/wvnews/higher-education-leader-warns-of-possible-million-budget-shortfall/article_8ccb3831-4f76-5d7d-bc18-bd1d4f8bef96.html
