Kinney hopes for additional community college funding in upcoming legislative session - Ryan Matheny, KMA
The president of a local community college is hoping lawmakers at the state level will do more to fund the state's higher education system. Dr. Dan Kinney is president of Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs. In a previous interview with KMA News, Kinney pointed to the governor's Future Ready Iowa Initiative as a potential avenue to provide additional funds to community colleges in the state. The program's goal is for 70 percent of the state's workforce to have some sort of education or training beyond high school by 2025. Kinney says he expects some sort of action to bolster that initiative this year.
