A Crimson Tide of Debt - Josh Mitchell, the Atlantic

Instead of propelling students into the middle class, many public institutions such as the University of Alabama are leaving them saddled with large loans. Last year, the Trump administration, for the first time, published how much parents like Thomas’s were going into debt at each university. At Alabama, the typical parent who borrowed owed $55,000 upon graduation. That was on top of the typical debt of $18,000 to $27,000, depending on the major, that undergraduates accrued.
