New paradigm needed for future higher education – Michael Fung - Nathan M Greenfield, University World News

Dr Michael Fung, executive director of the Institute for the Future of Education at Tecnológico de Monterrey in Mexico, called on UNESCO’s World Higher Education Conference 2022 in Barcelona to reimagine the existing higher education model that declares most people fit for the job market after 16 continuous years of education. This was after he noted that various disruptions occurring in today’s workplace – digitalisation, globalisation (and its inverse, localisation), aging workforces in developed economies and a shift from lifelong employment with one organisation to having multiple careers, among others – have been accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
