The technology supporting these metaversities comes from Engage, an Irish company that has produced virtual-reality experiences depicting the Titanic voyage, the Apollo 11 space mission and the bombing of Berlin during World War II. The design interface comes from VictoryXR, a company that sells virtual-reality education technology. And money for the project—as well as donated VR headsets for students at the participating colleges—comes from Meta, the company that owns Facebook. The flashiest part of the effort is the “digital twin campus” being created for each partner institution.
