The University of Florida announced $42.2 million in cuts to its budget Friday for the upcoming fiscal year. The proposed budget includes the elimination of about 150 staff and faculty positions. In addition, nine faculty members and 49 staff members will be laid off. "Our goal has been to develop a budget that preserves our core educational and research missions while positioning the university to withstand the economic realities facing this state and the nation," President Bernie Machen said in a letter to faculty, staff and students.
