A sharp decline in endowments and other gifts prompted the University of Redlands to lay off 29 non-teaching employees this week and to freeze pay and reduce benefits for its 646 remaining workers. The employees, who work in administration and other staff positions, were laid off Thursday, said university spokeswoman Katie Ismael.
