A&M regents put spotlight on budget - JEANNIE KEVER, Houston Chonicle

The hasty resignation of Elsa Murano and the resulting leadership vacuum at Texas A&M University has generated campus protests and headlines across the state. But members of the school's governing board are focused on something else — saving money. Skeptics — and there are plenty among faculty and alumni — suggest the current cost-cutting emphasis by A&M's board of regents and its chancellor is more about deflecting attention from other issues than about serious budget problems.
