Budget-driven furloughs began with August at Fresno State, with administrative offices shut down as part of a plan to close a $16.3 million shortfall in state money. Most employees in the California State University system will take off 24 days without pay this year. It's part of the CSU plan to manage a $564 million deficit that also includes enrollment cuts, higher student fees and other reductions. At Fresno State, administrative offices will close the next two Mondays -- Aug. 3 and 10. Instructional activities will continue on campus; limited janitorial services will be provided.
