Get ready for more college tuition hikes - Dana Beyerle, Times Montgomery Bureau
College students should brace for more tuition increases in the next couple of years to make up for dwindling state revenues caused by a soured economy that likely will send more students to college.Enrollment increases, inflation, the economy and dwindling Education Trust Fund revenues all mean that boards of trustees and the state school board that governs two-year colleges will need to protect their bottom lines for the next few years until the economy climbs out of the recession.Deborah Lane, assistant to the president and assistant vice president for University of Alabama relations, said when the economy is flat or in a recession as it is now, the only remaining source of funding is tuition.
