One percent pay cuts for 65 officials could save $1.5M - Zoe Hayes, Purdue Exponent
A salary freeze last August freed up about $15 million for other budget requirements, according to University officials, but an equal amount funded the salaries for 65 people. Those 65 individuals each make $200,000 or more annually – an average of $241,067 – and cost Purdue more than $15 million annually, or 2.5 percent of the salary budget for the University’s 15,474 employees. The numbers do not include 3 recently filled vice-presidential administrative positions; salaries for the President’s cabinet currently range from $162,000 (John Sautter, vice president for housing and food services) to $450,000 (France Córdova, president). If every Purdue employee making $200,000 or more annually took a 1 percent pay cut, it would save the University more than $1.5 million. However, officials never considered a voluntary or mandatory pay cut when adjusting the budget in August to make up for a gap in state funding.
