NY Fiscal Crisis Strikes Hard at Higher Education - WGRZ, Buffalo

New York is poised to make another round of deep midyear cuts in both public university systems and in financial aid under the Tuition Assistance Program. Legislative leaders are now analyzing the cuts proposed by Gov. David Paterson to deal with a deficit in the current budget of more than $3 billion. His two-year, $5 billion plan to keep the state solvent would cut $90 million from the State University of New York, $53 million from the small City University of New York and reduce every grant from the Tuition Assistance Program by $120.
