Budget crisis: Jobs, sports teams among CSUB cuts - Eyewitness Bakersfield

President Horace Mitchell took the podium to announce budget cuts across the California State University, Bakersfield campus. The cuts, he said, are needed to meet a projected $6.4 million budget reduction for the 2010-11 academic year. Mitchell said the CSU system, including CSUB, isn't getting the money it once did from the state, which is facing a deficit of nearly $20 billion over the next 18 months. The university was forced to cut $8 million this year, which led to employee furloughs, layoffs and program reductions.
