University Representatives Speak on Proposed Budget Cuts - WJBD
Illinois Senate Democrats Wednesday hoped to show what the state could look like if next year's budget contained no tax increase and a 10 percent cut across the board. They invited Southern Illinois University President Glenn Poshard to an Appropriation committee to testify. "The path of budget cuts and tuition increases will without question further reduce accessibility and affordability to low and moderate income families," he says. Poshard sat alongside University of Illinois Interim President, Stanley Ikenberry. "I'm sure the universities could cope with whatever environment they face," he says. "But we've been coping with a reduction in state support for the last decade."
