2-Year Colleges Serve More Students With Less Cash - Associated Press

But community colleges are grappling with an unprecedented dilemma brought on by the recession. Enrollment is up at the same time the state is facing a budget crisis that has led it to cut education funds and then fail to even hand over money the schools still have coming. What's more, property tax revenues that make up a huge chunk of many colleges' budgets are shrinking. The result: staff layoffs, fewer classes and more students squeezed into classrooms.
