SMSU maps budget outlook - Per Peterson, Independent

Southwest Minnesota State University surveyed its budget outlook Thursday and saw a potential $2,825,000 deficit for fiscal year 2011-12 if no cuts or reductions are made, or a shortfall of $2.4 million if cuts or reductions are made. If savings in FY11 are implemented, the range of cuts is from $800,000 to $2.4 million in FY12. "What we're trying to do is save money right now so we can better deal with large shortfalls that are anticipated as a result of the state shortfall," SMSU Vice President for Finance and Administration Doug Fraunfelder said. "These are big numbers, definitely big numbers, as a result of the state deficit."
