Education across London has been hit by strikes today after lecturers at 14 universities and further education colleges staged protests over budget cuts.
The University and College Union (UCU) has said that the "massive" cuts left it with no option but to stage industrial action, even though thousands of students who are preparing for exams are being affected. UCU general secretary Sally Hunt pointed out that universities face funding cuts of nearly £1 billion, while the further education sector has to make savings of £340 million in the next academic year.
