Report: 2010 College Budget Deficits = 2025 State Work Force Deficits - KATHARINE MIESZKOWSKI, NY Times

At a time when public colleges and universities in California are scaling back, a report released last week argues that state-funded higher education should expand to the tune of $1.6 billion annually to meet the needs of the state’s economy by 2025.“Higher Education in California: New Goals For the Master Plan,” from the Public Policy Institute of California, a non-partisan think tank, projects that fifteen years from now California will have one million fewer college graduates than its economy will require. Researchers from the Institute have sounded similar demographic alarms before.
