UCD students, parents angry, disgusted with sports cuts - Jason Kobely, News 10
The UC Davis Women's Rowing team possibly held one of its last regattas this weekend, as University of California, Davis athletic leaders announced it would be one of four sports to be cut. Faced with $1.79 million in cuts to its intercollegiate athletics program, the school is eliminating men's swimming and diving, men's indoor track and field, men's wrestling and women's rowing. "I was in the middle of taking a midterm. I found out through a bunch of texts," said varsity rowing captain Brittani Deriemer. "I didn't even make it to the press conference." 153 student athletes will lose their sport on July 1. Many said they are angry with the way UC Davis leaders made the decision.
