2010-11 budget cuts mean lean times for IUP - SAM KUSIC, Indiana Gazette

Indiana University of Pennsylvania will have to do a little bit more with a lot less this fiscal year. And probably the next one, too.To make ends meet under ``unprecedented'' budget conditions, as former President Tony Atwater put it, the university has had to cut $8.6 million from the 2010-11 budget. At the same time, it's projecting a slight enrollment increase, enough to give it another record attendance. The university estimates that 14,810 students will enroll this fall. And it is assuming that they'll pay 3 percent more in tuition - the university does not set its tuition. That responsibility lies with the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education and its board of governors, which has yet to set the tuition for 2010-11. That in mind, the university's balanced budget - with the cuts - calls for about $180.2 million in spending.
