SIU chief warns of possible furloughs, layoffs - Associated Press

The president of Southern Illinois University says it's grappling with the prospect of layoffs or furloughs this fall because of the state's financial mess. Glenn Poshard told SIU's governing board Thursday that the financially strapped state owes SIU roughly $85 million and that the money may not arrive until the end of the year. The university system's budget also could face a $20 million hit this fiscal year because of lost federal stimulus funds.
