Thomas Edison State College has been spared from the budget ax and will not become part of Rutgers University under the latest version of the proposed state budget.
The downtown Trenton college, which offers online courses but has no working classrooms, had been slated to lose its direct funding and become part of Rutgers University in Gov. Chris Christie's initial budget plan for 2010-2011. But the revised state spending plan restores the budget for an independent Thomas Edison State College (TESC), including $1.8 million in state grant aid. That's a reduction from $5.3 million in the current fiscal year.
