Latest budget cut casualty: Part of MSU dairy herd - Matthew Miller, Lansing State Journal

The latest casualty of budget cuts at Michigan State University? It’s cows, to be precise, a herd of 70 dairy cows housed at the Upper Peninsula Experiment Station in Chatham. MSU plans to auction them off in October, expecting to net about $70,000 and to save money on their upkeep. “There is no question, there are budget pressures in this state,” said John Baker, associate director of Michigan Agricultural Experiment Station.
