Tuition keeps rising and the University of Tennessee keeps advertising its lower-than-average comparative sticker price. But when it comes to the everyday family making the median income in the state, UT is less affordable than other public schools across the South. Those families making the median household income of $39,702 would have to fork over 18.5 percent of it to send their child to the state's flagship college.
