Students speak out about cuts at USM - ED KEMP, Hattiesburg American

One consequence of the University of Southern Mississippi program and faculty cuts for the 2011-12 academic year released two weeks ago? Student dissatisfaction with the current direction of the university, perhaps best demonstrated by two cartoons in Tuesday's edition of the student newspaper lampooning President Martha Saunders for closing down the College of Arts and Letters and turning Southern Miss into a community college. At Tuesday afternoon's fall convocation, Saunders flipped the script. Though "painfully aware" of the pain these budget cuts are inflicting on students, she said the cuts will benefit them in the long run.
