SUNY New Paltz chief admits budget woes could mean job cuts - Jeremiah Horrigan, Times Herald-Record
At an unusual open forum, interim SUNY New Paltz President Donald Christian likened faculty and staff to a "family" and urged them to cooperatively find ways to deal with long- and short-range financial problems. The initial reaction to Christian's offer by several hundred staff and faculty was positive, if cautious. Union leaders warned that faculty could not be involved in deciding what jobs or programs might be cut — possibilities that no one dismissed. The short-range problem is a $2.6 million budget gap between what college has in revenue for the current year and what it is required to pay to deliver its various services.
