Budget cuts mean more university layoffs - Lee Shearer - Athens Online

More University of Georgia employees will lose their jobs next year in the wake of the latest round of state budget cutbacks. University of Georgia President Michael Adams speaks about the budget situation Thursday during a meeting of the University Council at the Tate Student Center. “Some of these cuts in individual units may mean some limited layoffs,” UGA President Michael Adams said in Thursday’s meeting of the University Council, a mostly-elected group of faculty and administrators that advises Adams on academic and other policies. Adams didn’t offer any specifics about the upcoming layoffs or other cost-cutting measures. Deans, vice presidents and other administrators in UGA’s colleges, schools and other administrative units will make decisions about where to cut in the next few weeks, he said.
