Job cuts, tuition increase on the way at Alabama A&M - Paul Gattis, The Huntsville Times

Jobs may be eliminated at Alabama A&M University and tuition is set to increase as the financially-struggling school announced wide-ranging budget cuts. The school's business and finance committee, in a campus meeting Friday, received no specifics on job cuts from President Dr. Andrew Hugine or finance chief Ralph Johnson - who detailed the administration's budget proposal for 2012 in an hour-long presentation. Hugine and Johnson said the cuts are needed to make up for a loss in state funding as well as the expiration of federal stimulus money. "I don't want to be caught off guard and approving the budget and then find out in this budget, we had 20 people or 100 people eliminated," said trustee Velma Tribue, who participated in Friday's meeting via teleconference.
