'Modest' tuition hike, job cuts and other potential changes on way for Penn State - Genaro C. Armas, Associated Press

This spring, Pennsylvania's largest university system was a year into an intensive internal financial review that school officials said was hastened by declining support over the past decade — and that was before Gov. Tom Corbett proposed a 50 percent cut in March in state aid to Penn State and 17 other state or state-related universities. Penn State trustees are expected to formalize a tuition hike next week for the coming academic year, though more fallout from a 19 percent cutback in state funding could trickle out for weeks and months to come. That proposal led to demonstrations, rallies and lobbying efforts by angry students, staff and faculty. Negotiations reduced those cuts to 19 percent by the time Corbett signed the budget last week.
