WSRE news-reading program for blind silenced by budget cuts - Pensacola News Journal

Although the two have never met, they schedule time together each day to find out what is going on in Northwest Florida and the rest of the world. Patrick listens to Suarez's two-hour broadcast on WSRE from 9 to 11 a.m. The "SightLine Reading Service" provides news from the Pensacola News Journal to blind and visually impaired people. Patrick and Suarez's relationship ends today, though, when Suarez, 55, records the program's last segment. The program has fallen victim to recent state budget cuts. Sandy Cesaretti Ray, general manager of WSRE, said tough choices had to be made at the station.
