LSCS proposed budget at $276.7M - Kassia Micek, Monroe County Courier
The Lone Star College System is expecting to cut nearly $11 million from its 2011-12 budget.“The student’s share of the cost has never been higher in the history of the system” Carpenter said. Other cost-cutting measures the college previously adopted include a hiring chill, which saved $2.2 million in 2010-11 and is expected to save $2.4 million for 2011-12, spending cuts which saved $2.58 million in 2010-11 and are expected to save $6.34 million for 2011-12, and an increase in students fees and tuition which saved $3.5 million in 2010-11 and is expected to save $10 million for 2011-12. The college also increased class sizes last year, but that is not planned for this year as classrooms are maxed out, Gilliam said. Although college officials are waiting for certified tax rolls from Harris County before proposing a tax rate, Gilliam doesn’t expect the tax rate to change.
