In the wake of Gov. Jerry Brown’s recent announcement of nearly $1 billion in new state budget cuts, the Ventura County Community College District is now planning to dip into its reserves to keep programs intact for the rest of the 2011-12 school year, officials said this week. Last Tuesday the governor pulled the trigger on funding cutbacks for higher education, K-12 public schools, school bus services and a number of other social services—reductions that were to be enacted if state revenues did not reach the level hoped for by the end of 2011.
