Montco Community College students cry foul over budget cuts - Linda Stein, Delco Times
Students at Montgomery County Community College are dismayed that the county commissioners may cut $2.5 million from the college’s budget. Ben Litman, 21, of Towamencin, said he is upset by the proposed cuts and more upset by the county commissioners’ mismanagement. “Our commissioners board just hasn’t been getting things done,” said Litman. “It’s really sad and ultimately the constituents will feel the effects of these situations. To put the burden of county debt onto community college students is very sad.” While the county cuts may cause tuition to increase by $11 a credit, that means a hike of $132 for a full-time students, said Christine Chiodo, 19, of Glenside, the student government president at the main campus. That increase might cause some students to drop back to part- time or stop going to school at all.
