The state Higher Education Policy Commission is continuing its dialogue with university and college presidents in the state over the textbook affordability issue. A textbook committee studied the situation in 2009, and in 2010 each institution was required to have a rule in place. Some students here in West Virginia are paying more than $1,000 a semester for books, many of which they'll never use again and can only sell for a fraction of their purchase price. The HEPC got an update on how the campuses are doing during its meeting last Friday. Higher Education Chancellor Brian Noland says some very spirited discussion has taken place.
