Cal State Northridge students stress out under tightened enrollment - Carla Rivera, Los Angeles Times
For the last two weeks, Cal State Northridge Associate Dean Maureen Rubin has been troubled by anguished dreams of students unable to find classes — despite her best efforts. Mark Stevens' campus counseling office is filled with stressed-out students who can't get classes and believe their futures are being ruined. They are even enrolling in an anxiety management workshop. Melissa Alamo, a sociology and criminology major, needs one more class to lift her to full-time status. At stake, she said, is her entire education plan as well as access to campus child care for her 3-year-old son. "I don't want to have to extend my education for an extra semester because of one class," said Alamo, 21, a junior. "It's frustrating, but I'm not giving up."
