CU president: Colorado's state funding for colleges imperiled - Anthony Cotton, The Denver Post
Colorado's state funding for higher education will dry up sometime within the next decade if the current rate of spending cuts continues, said University of Colorado President Bruce Benson, citing a study by the State Higher Education Executive Officers. That's in comparison to places like Montana, which has increased state funding by almost 18 percent over the last five years, or Illinois which is up 25.9 percent, and North Dakota up 59.5 percent. While full-time enrollment in Colorado's colleges and universities has increased more than 23 percent over the last five years, state funding for higher education has decreased by $216 million, or 31 percent, over the last two years alone.
