Tech avoids layoffs in setting operating budget - Sarah Eddington, News Star

Despite an approximate $3.1 million budget cut, Louisiana Tech University was able to avoid layoffs or furloughs for the new fiscal year. The university recently finished crafting its proposed 2012-13 budget to accommodate the 3 percent reduction it must absorb. “We’ve been able to make this latest round of cuts without layoffs or furloughs, which was no small task,” said Louisiana Tech President Dan Reneau. “The people at Louisiana Tech — our faculty, staff and students — are our most valuable assets, and we’ve done everything we can to protect them from these cuts while continuing to provide the absolute best in academic instruction and research.” Louisiana Tech’s overall budget is projected at around $97 million, but that number is likely an overestimate and does not factor in the cost of unfunded mandates.
