The state will cut funding for community colleges and public universities if voters reject Proposition 30 in November. If the initiative does pass, funding for higher education will remain about the same, although many colleges and universities would still have to make some cuts. Community colleges stand to lose $338 million statewide if the initiative fails. The California State University and University of California systems would be cut by $250 million each. For Moorpark, Oxnard and Ventura colleges, the cut to community colleges would translate into a total loss of $8 million. "That means there would be fewer classes, and we'd serve fewer students," said Stephen Blum, chairman of the Ventura County Community District College board, which oversees the colleges. "It would not be good."
