A small, southeast Ohio college said it might lay off workers as early as Oct. 1 to cope with a $4.3 million budget shortfall. Officials at Hocking College in Nelsonville told The Athens Messenger fall enrollment is about 1,300 fewer students than in 2011, and that's hurting the budget. They wouldn't say how many workers will be affected by the layoffs, but they plan to evaluate jobs across the campus. The layoffs were mentioned in a Sunday letter from college President Ron Erickson.
