U of R prepares for potential budget cuts Read it on Global News: Global Regina | U of R prepares for potential budget cuts - Global Regina
Faculty at the University of Regina is stirred up over talk of possible upcoming budget cuts. "It’s unbelievably unfair,” says Kathryn Sinclair, a senior student at the university. While the province only releases their budget next March, the government has asked the school to lay out a financial floor-plan for the upcoming year. Thomas chase, provost and vice-president of academics says, “We're going into a budget year where we're anticipating some relatively mild cuts. We're looking at a potential of a three per cent cut.” But professors are baffled at the thought of potentially losing resources. “These cuts have basically hit us quite suddenly. Clearly, you know, all our planning has been thrown off by this,” says Nicholas Ruddick, head of the university’s English department.
