AZ House speaker angry at university tuition hikes - BOB CHRISTIE, Associated Press

House Speaker Andy Tobin wants to cut $15 million promised to the state's universities in the coming budget year because he's angry the Arizona Board of Regents voted to raise tuition. The Republican leader of the state House of Representatives called the board's action last month "shameful" and "disrespectful" and said the increase will impact middle-class students who already are bracing for higher student loan interest rates. The $15 million is the second installment in a deal struck last year to bring per-student funding at the state's three universities to the same level.
